To be clear, I have not watched any episode from existing seasons so I’m running into Fate/Zero as blind as a bat!!! The fact that it jumps three time periods in the first 8 minutes does not help!!! X_X

The only thing I got out of episode 1 was that Kirei is sent to Japan to learn magic so that in 3 years time, he will be powerful enough to command a servant for the Holy Grail War. It doesn’t seem to be his personal wish but is willing to follow orders.

Next we see Kariya’s outrage when he finds out that Sakura, a young girl from the Tosaka family, is adopted by his father with the intention that she produces a powerful child with magical powers. Tosaka is a family of magi blood. As she only has one year till the war, the short cut to getting her trained is to have her immersed in these awful bugs. That is so sick!!! I hope this anime moves away from torturing young girls etc cos it’s seriously sickening! Actually now I’m getting confused. Is she meant to be trained or get pregnant!? ARGH!!!!

Anyway, luckily there is Kariya who offers himself to the training and if he succeeds in winning the war, for Sakura to be set free. Sounds like a good gesture but it’s too late! The @#(&$# father is still going to train the girl in case he fails.

I don’t know what to expect but there wasn’t much music ready to be appreciated in this episode. I hope it gets better!!!!

P.S. Btw, one of the reason why I’m willing to watch this is because Ayako Kawasumi is in it!! I have not heard her voice in AGES!!! She was the person behind Chikane’s voice from Kannazuki no Miko!!!! *SWOON* Just for her, I’ll keep watching. ^_^

There’s not much this season in my opinion, which means there’s no YURI!!! **CRIES** Well there’s a teeny bit in Strike Witches (another reason why I’m watching it).  k1y0 has been powering through a few animes already and feedback so far to me is “meh”!

I will at least give the below a try (broadly in order of preference from most to least wanting to watch):

(a) Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin (aka Occult Academy)

Launch date: 5 July 2010

Plot: It’s all about the supernatural – the daughter of the former headmaster of an occult academy who dies in 1999 and a man, his background unknown, that time travels from 2012.

Why I’m watching it: The plot sounds interesting! I generally do like supernatural things as long as it’s not TOO scary! haha I figured I’ll try something different for a change. There’s also Youko Hikasa!!! Mio from K-ON!! ^_^

(b) Strike Witches Season 2

Launch date: 7 July 2010

I haven’t watched this before but I’m sold by Sapphire Onee-chan’s post. ^_^ I’m still not a fan of the “missing pants” but I’ll give it a go…

(c) Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi

Launch date: 1 July 2010

Plot: Romance comedy with fairy tale parodies. Ryoko along with her partner (girl again), Ringo, runs around fixing things in the school. Oh and just to balance things out, obviously a guy is thrown in.

Why I’m watching it: No idea what to expect from the storyline but OMG the SEIYUU!!! It has a heap of seiyuu that I like!!! Shizuka Ito, Aki Toyosaki (Yui from K-ON!), Ayako Kawasumi (Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko!!), Rie Kugimiya (Touko in Marimite and Yuuki in Saki) AND Yui Horie (*JAW DROP* Yuuki from Vampire Knight, Eri from School Rumble)!!!! Recognise the voice in the trailer!?!! hehe

Oh and of course I will be watching Sono Hanabira

Warning: Spoilers ahead!!

This is one hell of a “you-must-watch” finale!!! The first half was fairly lighthearted. Yuri wakes up in the infirmary with everyone around her. After realizing that she has since found peace, the remaining few of them have their own graduation ceremony. These scenes, especially when they sing their departing song, ALWAYS moves me!!! >_< I think in my own final assembly in my last year of highschool, myself and all the girls around me were just crying. Watching them sing the song reminded me of Marimite when the onee-chans (Sei, Youko and Eriko) were graduating…it’s a sad scene. They all say good byes and leave one by one…with Otonashi and Kanade left. : (

I’ve been so busy at work in the last few days that I just realised that I’ve finished the last anime (Gokujou Seitokai) and have nothing to watch?!? I actually have plenty of DVDs – some even unopened – but I feel like anime more. Hmm….what should I watch? Do any of you have some good suggestions?

An hour later…

Well, after much searching, I was tossing between Ichigo Mashimaro and Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tababito (Yami, the Hat and the Travelers of the Books). Why I was interested in these? Very simple…because of the voice actresses!

  • Strawberry Marshmallow – there’s Hitomi Nabatame (Shizuma from SP and Kanade from Gokujou Seitokai), Ayako Kawasumi (Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko) AND Mamiko Noto (Shimako from Marimite) – now that’s one hell of a cast!! ^_^
  • Yami, the Hat and the Travelers of the Books – Mamiko Noto as the main character.

But, I honestly wasn’t too keen on the look of Strawberry Marshmallow so did a quick browse and…NO! The character is meant to be 20 but she looks 12! Now that really doesn’t work for me…

Then I somehow landed on Sola! It’s still got my Mamiko Noto AND was voted the best anime for 2007! So….haha I think I’ll try Sola first! Looks pretty good to me! ^_^

I’ll post an update later!

I finished! All 26 episodes! It was a pleasant ending finishing the anime with a few heart warming moments. It was touching (and funny in some bits) to seeing the entire Gokujou Seitokai trying to break into the Jinguuji residence to see their President Kanade!

I think one of the funniest parts here was when the gang realised Cindy could speak fluent Japanese! haha The only reason why she doesn’t speak it is because her mum says it’s wrong! LOL Anyway, it was good to see the entire Council in action!

Story: 7

The good thing about Gokujou Seitokai is that it never tried to over achieve. Right from the start, it presented itself as a light-hearted enjoyable anime with a school setting. There’s no fancy bells or whistles – just about a group of girls who runs a girls’ school. With that mindset in mind, it’s hard to be overly disappointed. This anime won’t make it to my top favourites list but was nevertheless thoroughly enjoyable. From the story perspective, there is an even focus across all the characters. It’s not so much a Rino x Kanade story. More about the characters below…

Characters: 9

For me, most of the enjoyment was from the supporting cast! I’m probably biased but not only are they are likeable, but many are played by my favourite seiyu-s!! ahahha Fair enough to say that the voice actresses bumped up my score here! haha I think each was relatively unique and had their own role to play in the story. I particularly liked episode 22 – Gokujou Card Battle – LOL that one cracked me up!! haha It nicely summed up all the characters of each person. Honestly, I can’t even name just one or two favourites! I like almost all of them! Ok, I’ll try to list what I liked:

  • Kuon + Nanaho – a sprinkle of competition/friction between them but at the same time they seemed to understand each other very well…Aaah! Noriko (from Marimite) + Rokujo (from SP)! haha
  • Rein + Sayuri – nice close bond between the two – I think this is probably the only pair expressing any form of yuri…btw, Sayuri is Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko!
  • Kotoha + Izumi + Ayu + Seina – these I liked as standalone characters – I wish there was more of Seina, Kotoha and Ayu! Kotoha is Yumi from Marimite. Izumi was Chiyo from SP (neighbour of Aoi).
  • Kanade – her voice! Very much like the one she used for Shizuma in SP minus the playfulness…^_^

Music: 7

In the second half of the anime, the story did actually make some serious turns – which was good cos you can’t just sit through 26 episodes of random silliness (though some parts were pretty damn funny)!! There were a few pieces that I quite liked (as I mentioned in a previous post). I’ve uploaded another track onto IMEEM. Volume 2 is about to hop onto a plane and come to me!! haha

Overall: 8

If you want something relaxing to watch, this one’s not a bad choice! Oh and Pucchan didn’t annoy me half as much as I thought! Maybe because he’s quite a cheeky character?!

I’m starting on a new anime today. I chose this one because it is yuri and it sounds similar to Marimite but with more humour (there’s an even bigger reason but I’ll cover that later). hehe I can’t wait for Season 4! In the meantime, I will need to distract myself with other things…Just a quick warning – don’t expect any outstanding storyline…I’m sure that as you read along you will find that it all sounds a bit familiar…

Plot: A new girl, Randou Rino, transfers to the Miyagami Academy where there is a student council body that is more powerful than the teachers. The council is headed by Jinguuji Kanade (long purple hair) who basically owns the school and is successor to the family conglomerate (Sachiko anyone?). The council is made up of three branches: (a) Assault Squad – equivalent to the “police”; (b) Covert Squad – the intelligence team; & (c) Vehicle squad – I think they look after the driving etc. Anyway, each member has their own special abilities, whether this be fighting or intelligence gathering.

You can check out the opening here.

*The VOICES*

Another very very good reason to watch this are the voice actors!! OMG!! Guess who stars in this anime!?!? Now how often will you find all the below in ONE anime??

  • Jinguuji Kanade ~ Hitomi Nabatame ~ Shizuma in Strawberry Panic! Her voice is very similar here!! ^_^ Nice!
  • Kinjo Nanaho ~ Junko Noda ~ Miyuuki in Strawberry Panic!
  • Hida Sayuri ~ Ayako Kawasumi ~ Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko – GREAT!!
  • Kutsugi Kotoha ~ Kana Ueda ~ Yumi from Marimite

What I think so far?

I’ve only watched 2 episodes of the 26 so can’t say too much but pretty good so far! Rino is always carrying around a puppet which I thought would really annoy me but not yet! It’s fairly light-hearted and kind of funny! I’m going to continue watching it – will write up another update later! One thing I’m a bit disappointed about is Jinguuji! I wish she was prettier – the face and the hair just lacks the WOW factor for me…on the otherhand, the other characters look pretty good…more to come!

Genre: Romance + mecha

Plot: The main character is Kuu Shiratori, a normal looking high school girl. Seems to be obsessed about her imaginery “Prince”, always addressing to him in the voiceovers (bloody annoying). Apparently in her past life she was an Absolute Angel – a powerful fighting machine which was split into 5 parts. Each of these “parts” (her limbs and soul) are represented by different characters. They all come together to form the ultimate fighting machine and in order to save the world, she chooses to self-destruct.

Why I watched it?

Wasn’t too keen to start with but I watched Kannazuki no Miko and I heard that Chikane and Himeko are reincarnated and appear in this drama (but only as supporting characters).

What I thought of it?

C R A P and B O R I N G!! I admit I was dead tired when I watched this but I found it soooooo boring! Possibly because Kuu is such a weak and annoying character – I like girls/characters with attitude and strong personalities. Music was very flat too – didn’t catch my attention. Anyway, it wasn’t worth the time. Luckily I fast forwarded through the 12 episodes! Don’t waste your time on this one! UNLESS you’re suffering Himeko and Chikane withdrawal symptoms! haha

P.s. But then Kannazuki no Miko is worth checking out – just because of Chikane x Himeko. Mecha parts I reckon can be skipped but then it might be just me. I’m fairly new to anime series and so far I seem to only like yuri! ^_^

Gokigenyou!

Hello! Now let's cut to the chase! If you're here to squeal about yuri or update yourself on some Japanese dramas/movies and gossip - then this is the place to be!!! I personally prefer the squealing over yuri amongst other things!! HEHEHE (^_^)V
