The finale was finally released a good week ago. This is definitely no ordinary magical girls anime!! It is dark, kind of depressed and I find it at times devastating. Devastating in that once you accept to being a magical girl, the granting of the wish is like a curse in itself where there is no way out. Forever they fight and the moment they give up, they turn into a witch. The wish disguised as a curse is made apparent in the design of the witches. I remember vividly that with Sayaka’s wish was for that boy to be able to play his violin again and in her witch form, there were countless shadows of musicians/violinists playing. I felt that all the witches were all fearful and terrifying.
Onto the ending, I was at first very confused but I got a bit better understanding from reading Wiki!! haha Gotta love that online source!!! It’s not ideal but is probably the best it can be?? Do you reckon so too?
In any case, I have been amazed by the music here. I’m definitely buying the OST which is said to be out on 25 May. A few clips from Youtube that I think are worth checking out. Overall an interesting and rollercoaster ride of an anime but I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite. It’s too dark but it is a quality anime no doubt.

When I first gave it a go, I was immediately put off by it. Honestly, I started making a face 15 seconds in. I didn’t like the art (BIG FLASHING WORD “LOLI” on my screen) and the quality of the video and subs were not that great either. I very quickly turned it off.
HOWEVER!! I have since received multiple messages (whether by comments or by Meebo) to tell me that I must give this anime a go. I even spotted Erica saying that on Twitter and a few online friends squealing openly. FINE – I must give this another shot! I promised at least 3 episodes and am now up to episode 6 and I intend to be up to speed by this weekend. ^_^
Ok, so my thoughts! I actually don’t mind magical girl animes… *PAUSE* As a wrote that one statement my mind went into a blank. I cannot think of any magical girl animes that I like! I never watched Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha as I couldn’t bring myself to watch beyond episode 1 of season 1. I felt like I was watching a magical baby. -_-” Having said that I do like my Mai Otome – one of my favourites! Anyway, back to the topic! LOL
The character designs are definitely more loli than I prefer but the anime is surprisingly serious. You can’t just become a magical girl when offered. You must make a wish and in return you must battle out the witches. The witches aren’t just some useless monster that needs to be killed but are “beings” that targets those in society with emotional weaknesses to bring about their self-destruction. Something happened in episode 3 which was completely unexpected in this kind of anime. It kind of made me go O_O for a second. Plus the soundtrack is AMAZING here (looks at k1y0)!! It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such a moving anime OST!! The music adds a whole dimension of purpose and sacrifice to the anime. After a little while, the loli-ness doesn’t become so obvious anymore. The art pertaining to the witches’ worlds are also quirky – reminds me of art deco and clowns. They contrast harshly (not in a bad way) against the “normal world” and I find it a bit scary actually.
This anime is really a strange mix in my opinion. On the surface it looks like another run off the mill magical girl anime but it’s actually a whole lot more than that. Worth checking it out. Three episodes will be enough to make a decent decision.
Just by my title alone you probably realise that this is my first contact with Strike Witches!!!! I looked HIGH and LOW but could not find any signs of dresses or pants!!!! All I saw was a nice sailor type uniform but as I looked down I’d see panties and/or bare legs!!!! Oh boy…
When I watched this anime, I just thought it was all about someone’s fetish coming true!!! Girls with no pants, cat ears and tails and can kick ass!!! hahaha It’s OK so far…not all that exciting though I do think the one of the bottom right hand corner is pretty cool! I also liked the animation of the cherry blossoms. VERY pretty!! I’ll keep watching but I feel that I will eventually drop it…
How many times I have said this now!? Yes…again…not a whole lot happens in this episode. -_- BUT, I didn’t mind so much cos almost the whole episode is on Misa!! She’s so cool and top it off with Naba-chan’s voice, PERFECT!!
Oh and there were others in the episode – just a short appearance. Seriously we’re already up to episode 8!! Is ANYTHING going to happen!?!!
Aaaaaaah!! I’m disappointed!!!! Nothing really happened in this episode!!! >_<
Grrrr….!! Luckily I got a glimpse of Misa and there was a bit of cute Misa x Yumiko moment at the end otherwise I’d be even more annoyed!!!! BOOOHOOO!!! I really episode 8 picks up!!
The story is getting frustrating. I know it’s not important but we’re up to episode 6 now and we’re only up to the opening scene where the two girls are fighting that French mage!! For *BEEP* sake!! MOVE ON!! Koyomi for whatever reason travels back in time to 6 yrs ago where she meets the younger Yumiko. Together along with the Misa from the past, together destroys/kills the mage. At least we got a brief yuri-ish moment…
Oh and we get to see Misa in her “good Santa” outfit!!! I must admit that it STILL looks quite cute! Along with Hitomi’s voice!? PERFECT! Well finally the story for this bit has ended. I’m really keen on seeing a FRESH storyline. Can we please???
LOL!! Seriously – I’m not watching this anime for the story. But I think it turned out like there was some time traveling. Apparently Misa had sent Koyomi back in time 6 years ago to find out some password of a program that she had created then. That’s basically how it all started. Anyway, like I said, my mind didn’t really focused on the story.
I just love watching the characters!!! Look how cool Misa looks!! Looooove Naba-chan!!
