Before I jump in, I noticed one odd thing about this animation!! Am I the ONLY one that thinks that all the characters seem to have a 5 o’clock shade going!!?! Everyone’s bottom half of the face is a shade darker!! It’s like they all need a bit of a good scrub or shave!!! hahaha Am I seeing things here!??!!
Anyway, the animation here is clean but more importantly, the SEIYUU!!! I LOOOOOOVE the cast! I have not seen some of these names and so many in one anime for so long!!! We have (*drum rolls*):
- Yui Horie!!!! She’s the 2nd girl from the right! I miss her voice so much!!!! The moment she came on I just couldn’t help but smile!!!! ^___________^
- Rie Kugimiya!!!! Toko from Marimite!!! hohohoho oh and Shana of course!! She’s the first girl from the left.
- Romi Paku!!! Oooh she has an androgynous look here – third from the left with the blue cap. Can’t wait!!!!!
- Ami Koshimizu!!! She’s the one to the far right. Such a sweet voice!!
With all these voice actresses, who cares about the story!?!?! But don’t worry! Actually the story doesn’t quite disappoint either. Yu the protagonist (silver hair guy) moves to a little town to live with his uncle and he meets these new friends. In episode 1, there is a murder, him and his friends are suddenly sucked into another world and somehow he seems to be able to call upon some massive machine to help him out!!! It’s kind of cool but it’s almost like too much all in one episode. I’m DEFINITELY going to watch this. Who’s watching this too? I know k1y0 is!! ^_^
I decided to check this anime out cos the story sounded kind of interesting but it was mainly the art that captured my attention. The animation seemed very high quality and the character design of the girls kind of remind me of Shizuma from Strawberry Panic! It’s the really pointy noise and dainty looking faces. I seriously find Shizuma very hard to beat on the looks side. *SWOONS* hahahaha
My only complaint about this anime from watching it for a few minutes is their oversized BREASTS!!! *ROLL EYES* Seriously. *sigh* On the whole though, I do like the designs. The soundtrack that played in the opening was promising too. Finally for good measure, there are a tonne of seiyuu that will ring a bell!

Episode 1 was just seeing the class of students trying to attack their sensei. Looks interesting enough…and the fighting it kind of cool. I think that mysterious girl with the grey hair is Horizon? I’ll keep watching! ^_^

I’ve been meaning to summarise what is catching my eye in the coming season but spare time has been hard to find lately!! Luckily both Yuri no Boke and hashihime has both summarised what’s coming this season. I’ll simply highlight those that I will be checking out. I might not be entirely accurate on the plot summaries…just a warning…The following is broadly in the order of the most appealing first…
Episode 1 on 13 January
Story: Shuicihi Nitori appears to be a shy and quiet preteen boy, when he transfers to a new school he quickly makes friends with the tomboyish Yoshino Takatsuki who sits next to him. It soon becomes apparent that both Shucihi and Yoshino are more than simply a sensitive boy and masculine girl, they both are transgendered. Together they decide to take the first steps toward becoming the people they want to be (taken from ANN).
Reasons for watching: There are a number of reasons to watch this one!! Firstly, the mangaka is the one from Aoi Hana, Takako Shimura!! There’s no yuri but the anime focuses on some transgender issues!? Sounds interesting!! Plus if you go to the website and check out their trailer, the art is soft and endearing with a very classical music OST. I love the use of strings!! How can you NOT watch it!?!? Seiyuu wise, it’s also quite attractive with Aki Toyosaki (Yui from K-ON!), Nana Mizuki (Fate from Magical Girl Lyrical), Saeko Chiba (Natsuki from Mai-Hime), Yoshino Nanjou (Maria from Canaan), Yui Horie (need I say more!?) but they seem to all just play supportive roles. The main two characters are played by new voice actors, I think?
Aren’t they cute?! I stole the picture from Shizuka’s blog. hehe I must say that I like Shizuka’s kimono (or maybe it’s a yukata) the most!! There’s even Etopen there!!! hahahaha
hashihime has done ANOTHER amazing summary of what’s to come this season!! Well first of all – the below are on the top of MY “to-watch” list!!! ^_______^ Oh and just to give you a heads up, if it’s got ANY signs of yuri or has one of my favourite seiyuus, I’m basically there!!! hahaha
Do I need to say MORE?!?! HEHEHEHE But there are THREE surprises!!! At least for me!! Are you ready??
- One of the supporting seiyuus will be Mamiko Noto!!!! YAY!!!!
- One of them will be Aki Toyosaki!! Who’s that?! It’s YUI from K-ON!!! She will be voicing Miwa Mogi…hmm…who’s that!? OMG! Just realised!! “Yui” & “Mugi” (Minako Kotobuki) are BOTH in a lot of the new anime!!! ^____^ More later!!
- The music will also be done handled by Haketa Takefumi who was in charge of Vampire Knight’s OST!!! Now THAT’s something to look forward too!!
Can’t WAIT!!!! It’s here on 1 July!!
Before I start my rant, let me justify that my take on this anime is REASONABLY objective as I have not read the manga. However, I do note that I’m a big fan of Marimite which may sway my view slightly given the seiyuu involved.
Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, this anime was a VERY pleasant surprise!! Not only is it a little adrenalin rushing (when did mahjong become such an interesting ‘sport’???) but there seems to some sprinkling of yuri!!! AHAHA I was again trying to procrastinate from doing some real work when I casually remembered this new anime series. Why not…let me youtube…that’s where it all went downhill! haha I almost woke up late the next day!! hahaha
My first reaction 1 minute into the anime:
- Art looked ok
- Oooooh…!!! YURI!!! “What a beautiful girl…” (what a giveaway!?! It was like, “let’s at least lock in the yuri die hard fans”….YEP ME!!!! hahaha)
- Ok, those ‘assets’ look a tad too much…(Tsk! So typical of the Japanese!?!) I honestly thought it was meant to be a joke and we’d find out that she’s just stuffed something up there!?! But I’m wrong! Clearly…
- It’s YUMI in a new uniform!! hahaha I particularly picked up on this when Saki is caught looking at Nodoka and hides behind her book!! ^_^ Like Yumi x Sachiko!!! =) I like!!!! I don’t care whether it’s just admiration (or maybe a little bit more??? *hopeful*) but I’m definitely watching this with yuri goggles on!! ^_____^
Oooh!! Just realized that episode 1 of Saki has been subbed!! It’s available on YouTube. I’ve only watched the first 10 minutes but I’m liking it!!! With a cast involving Kana Ueda, Ami Koshimizu, Rie Kugumiya and Shizuka Ito, I feel like it’s almost a Marimite reunion!!! We just need Mamiko Noto or Kaori Shimizu!! Oh and Sachiko & Yoshino!! Haha *sigh* forgive me. I’m still suffering from my Marimite s4 withdrawal symptoms!!
Anyway check out Saki!! I’ll try to write up a full post later on episode 1. Oh and more importantly, what’s the go with Saki blushing when she sees Nodoka?!? Is it just me with hyper sensitive yuri goggles or are others sensing something too???? I’m not a follower of the manga so have NO idea what’s ahead!!?!?
