I see myself as fairly normal though people often joke about my “childish” interests. If you don’t know already, I can get a bit overly excited about certain dramas, movies and soundtracks! Oh and a recent addition – ANIME! HAHA! I feel like I’m always years behind what other people doing!? Hmm…I watch various genres of anime but I have a soft spot for shoujo-ai / yuri. As if you can’t tell already, right?! HAHA (Pic to the left is Mari from the manga Girl Friends! I LOOOOVE IT!).
I’m also a huge fan of soundtracks – began collecting them since 2004 or so. Not sure what triggered me…I think it was from watching too many Japanese dramas! Some of my favourites are Beautiful Life, Orange Days, Taiyou no Uta…the list can go on forever…^_^
Btw, feel free to argue with me if you don’t share my view on some anime or drama! I’m more than happy to take you on! Alternatively, you can always recommend me some book, anime, drama, movie or anything! Particularly OST and instrumentals! I have an insatiable appetite for either! hehehe Kansgurl0_0!! Thanks for dropping by!! That’s so sweet! =) My laptop is being repaired so my site has been a little dead lately and I haven’t been able to keep up with my anime news. BUT, from what I gather, we have at least two yuri anime to enjoy this yr – Sasameki Koto and Aoi Hana. Both should be good!! Bad thing is that they won’t be out till July. In the meantime, we’ll have to just live on Girl Friends and Ichigo Mashimaro Encore! (latter is not very yuri but good fun anyway to watch) I’ll post things up if I spot anything yuri!!

Hey Sleepy I came across your site because I was too excited about Girl Friends chapter 22 and your site came up on google. Haha! I downloaded the raws because I couldn’t resist the temptation… even though I don’t understand any Japanese. I can’t wait for the translated version of chapter 22!!! I am just assuming that Akko and Mari are kind of awkward? But the cute kind of awkward you feel when you and your crush feel the same way but don’t openly admit it (this is just based on context clues because of that look Akko gave Mari on that page where they were wearing sports attire and they were holding some sort of plastic over their heads and they just stared at each other and Akko looked away…. SOOOOOOOO CUTE maybe she found Mari too cute and she wanted to kiss her again :)) )

Yeah you know what, I’ve only started reacting THIS MUCH after chapter 21. Of course during the earlier chapters I also visit forums/sites like Sleepy’s and read people’s comments on GFs. During all those times I have contained myself not to react because I’m not really into making comments–I just love reading them–but GAHD, that kiss from chapter 21 IS WORTH EVERY LETTER IN MY KEYBOARD TIMES ONE MILLION AND MORE :))

Hey mei – one of my recent favourite OSTs was “Departures” (jmovie). Composed by Joe Hisaishi! He’s amazing. But you would probably “feel” the OST more if you watched the movie first. Check it out!! There’s a lot of cello!! ^_^

But I actually tried watching it a good few months ago and I didn’t really like it. I thing it was the dated animation and the girl was so kiddy!! LOL yeah i had the same trepidation for that series since the first and second anime series started off when they’re like 9…oy vei:(. But StrikerS rolled around and hey they’re 19, and that’s where most of the fun begins anyway:). If you want you can even bypass the first two series Nanoha and Nanoha A, and then go back and watch nanoha and nanoha A if the mood strikes. Ya kinda have to play these things by ear ya know and wing it sometimes :D. Sorry i’m very non-traditional when it comes to the order in which i watch anime.

I’ve heard of Yuki Kajiura’s music and I know it’s good but I haven’t listened enough to be a fan. I have no specific composer in mind aside from Joe Hisaishi. There are a few which I like in jdrama world but even then I wouldn’t be able to quote you the names off the top of my head!!

I like some of kanno yoko’s songs too, but yuki kajiura is “The One” for me. I first got interested in her when watching .hack//SIGN, due to the awesomeness of the music. Along came series like Noir, Madlax, Gundam SEED songs (FictionJunction YUUKA), and Tsubasa Chronicle. Now that she’s concentrating on Kalafina, my favourite is FictionJunction KEIKO. Can’t really say why though.
After listening to 砂塵の彼方へ, her collaboration with Revo, I started getting into Sound Horizon too!
I don’t take note much of music from dramas, since I don’t watch them much. Instead, I am a total fan of Square-Enix games, and was sooo excited to attend a Distant Worlds concert and obtained Nobuo Uematsu’s autograph. However, my all-time favourite game OST belongs to Yasunori Mitsuda’s Chrono Cross. I would often pause the game, sat back in my chair, and listen to the music before I bought the OST.

Nerei, what’s your fave track/bgm from ChronoCross? Mine would have to be Dreams from a distant shore (actually it’s been so long so this may not be the exact name of the track, but it’s the world map bgm in the past world). It’s beautiful, and i’m guilty of doing the same thing you did when playing the game:). And i’m glad we don’t have to be up in arms with the two YKs since Yuki Kajiura is “the one” for me too.

Now that you mention it, I loved the Mai-Hime & Mai-Otome soundtracks! I was nuts about it for a while and they permanently sit on my anime playlist! haha I’ve got two albums from each!! =)

I totally love the “Dream Of The Shore Near Another World”, which is the BGM for Another World. Besides for that, there are “Garden of God”, “Magical Dreamers ~The Wind, the Stars, and the Sea~”, and also the ever-popular pieces like “Chrono Cross ~Time’s Scar~”, “Radical Dreamers ~Unstolen Jewel~”, etc. At this rate, can I just list every track in the OST?

Yes, Yuki Kajiura composed the music for Mai-Hime, but which song did she sing in there? I do know she rarely sings as the music composer, and I only heard her sing in a small part of 砂塵の彼方へ (her singing’s good!). I’m assuming her live concerts are not counted since she sings background. ^_^

@Nerei, thanks for the videos. It still amazes me how well Yuki Kajiura mixes classical elements with the range of human voice. The music is distinctively Kajiura’s but no two songs of hers are exactly the same. Even though she was trained to play the piano, some of her most interesting pieces contain string instruments most notably the violin. She can create wicked scores using that instrument. And my goodness that’s a lot of people:)! I know she’s 40 but she still looks like she’s in her 20s…early 30s at the most.
And of course you can mention all the tracks to ChronoCross…the more the merrier! Thanks for correcting the title of that track btw.

Yes, a lot of her pieces involve elaborate violin solos as well, but during performances, she is always the one at the keyboard – Anime Expo, live concerts, and the Dream Port performance. I do agree that her style’s very distinct (at least to me).
On the other hand, I can’t recognize kanno yoko’s music even if you threaten me with a knife, not unless I already know it’s her piece beforehand.

So, there is a yuri-marathon that is taking place on my bed, on my laptop, right now.. and it ROCKS. Seriously. I just went through all of strawberry panic, utena, candy boy, and now I’m re-watching sasameki koto. (Even though I watched the whole of it yesterday, along with aoihana) Anyone, any thoughts on how long I’m going to have to waste away watching Sumi try her luck with Ushio and NOT GET ANYWHERE..??? For real. Season 2?? And *DAMMIT* Nagisa. Just date Tamao already. Then Shizuma can hook up with Miyuki and everyone will get through it. Ugh.

I know it’s one of THE yuri anime to watch but I think the last time I checked it out I didn’t like the style of the character designs and it’s so OLD! I should give it a go though.

Yuri anime is a genre where it is above love between two girls but having said that the term “love” here can be interpreted a bit more broadly than the conventional understanding of “love”. It can be just a bit more than “just friends” between two girls. Hope that helps!!

Helloo~ Just thought I’ll share this manga to you, that I’ve been reading lately – it’s not yuri but I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did! :)
It’s called Arisa (dunno if you heard of it before.. :S)
It’s basically about 2 twin sisters who haven’t seen each other for three years due to their parents’ divorce.
They have been keeping in touch via letters, and decided to meet each other again.
When Tsubasa said that she’s envious of her sister, Arisa suggests to change their identities for a day. But when Arisa attempts suicide, Tsubasa learns that her seemingly perfect sister has been keeping some dark secrets.
Now Tsubasa is going undercover at school – disguised as Arisa; to search for the truth.
