WHAT A COW!!
That’s what I would have said to Milk Morinaga if she was in front of me when I finished this chapter.
HOW COULD SHE DO THIS TO US!!? LEAVE us hanging like that?!?! Aaaaah!
*Takes a deep breath*
Ok, I take that back. I apologize for my rudeness. Sorry. Milk Morinaga is a wonderful mangaka and I honestly appreciate the effort she has put into this series. Despite it being manga, I have found it surprisingly real and touching. Without a doubt, this was another endearing chapter of Girl Friends.
This chapter takes on a fresh turnaround – we read from Akko’s point of view. I think this is the first time we’ve seen it from her perspective but I could be wrong.
Her feelings have moved on from the initial shock and fear of Mari’s confession. At the start, she’s still trying to sort out her emotions but we can see that her heart is almost close to embracing Mari…but pauses.
In this chapter, we see Akko in pain as she watches Mari replying to her boyfriend’s messages, Mari not accepting her invite to the pool, Mari stepping aside to answer her boyfriend’s call…Akko for the first time feels the intense pain in her heart.
She eventually realises what Mari means to her…
And that’s it. That’s where Morinaga left us with until 21 March when the next chapter is released. Am I not right to have the initial urge to call her a cow?? You must have understood how I felt… =) Damn. I really like this series. Haha

T_T Ok, I think this is taking to long. But at least we know that Akko likes Mari-chin in THAT way too. >_> … *kills Mari’s boyfriend* …. And now they’re free so they can be together! :D

hahaha Sounds like at least us three are pretty crazy about Girl Friends!! I actually don’t find it that slow anymore. The pace is kind of realistic but I guess it’s slow relative to other manga.
Seriously, I was just re-reading chapter 19 – this series is so distinct from others. I’ve read other yuri manga but NOTHING is close to Girl Friends! I wish they made an official English release or even better, into anime!!! I can only dream…

I love it too!!! And I agree with its uniqueness among yuri. It’s the next best thing to a prequel of nanaXhitome that showed all what Hitomi went through coming to terms with her feelings for Nana, I’d at least know it had a happy ending. I’m always scared things are going to go bad in Girl Friends. But I was really happy with this chapter, even with the cliffhanger. Just one more month till the next one.

I agree that it was really bad of the author that leaves us hanging like that, but I guess it’s also all the drama that’s happening that keeps us interested and wanting more, very good sales strategy!

I was slightly surprised that this chapter actually ended up with Akko realising her feelings for Mari. I had thought that they will drag it out for another chapter at least so that was a nice surprise!! *sigh* A WHOLE month to wait!!
As for that SMS, I assumed it was the boyfriend SMSing her i.e. he was apologizing to her – not the other way round. I got that impression because a later page shows (at least it’s what I think) the boyfriend waiting for a reply from Mari. I suspect he must have tried to take things a bit further and she bolted. Correct me if I’m wrong…
Btw, I cracked up at the beginning when Akko asked when was the last time Mari came!! AHAHAHAHA Classic!!

Oh yeah, about the boyfriend, I got the feeling mari was apologizing for running off, and he was mad and didn’t respond to it. He seemed more angry or annoyed to me. I could be wrong, too. I also think the call at the end is him breaking up with her… What a jerk.

Person A – basically you’re right. I think Mari basically twisted the facts a little.
Tessa – I didn’t think the boyfriend was angry – I thought he was waiting for Mari to reply. He seemed like a nice guy so I didn’t interpret it that way. Oh well – who cares. We just want to know what happens between Mari and Akko!!! A WHOLE FRIGGIN MONTH!! >_<

I think mari lied too. Amusingly, lying actually did put them both on the same page since they’re both lying about having had sex. Kinda poetic actually.

Actually I think Mari just over heard that, Akko didn’t lie or talk about it at all I think… So only Mari lied, if what I remember is correct…

Person A, you’re right. I don’t recall Akko outright lying about it at all. I think Mari simply overheard bits and pieces from the others so assumed Akko had sex with the guy from the mixer. I think it’s about time I do some re-reading…I mean what can I do with another 3 weeks to WAIT!?!?! Aaaaaah!
Oh and I just decided to buy the Japanese version of volume 1!! haha I’ve already got volume 2! My aim is to learn Japanese so that I can read Girl Friends in its original form!! hahahaha I’m crazy….whatever!! haha
