The new drama season in Japan has started! YAY! Check this spot out for the latest rundown of what’s being subbed or not! What’s the point of a great drama (like Last Friends) if it isn’t subbed, right?
Now for the ones that catch my eye:
Genre: Medical + drama
Actors: Eita (yay!!), Satomi Ishihara
Broadcast date: 12 January
EITA!! YAY!! One of my favourite Japanese actors! Can’t wait to see more of him! He plays one of the five medical students who are studying forensic pathology. His character is bright and is known for his great perceptive skills and strong intuition. Together, the students work through various mysteries. Another point worth noting is that the screenwriter is Shigeki Kaneko who was also responsible for Proposal Daisakusen.
Actors: Ryoko Hirosue, Yosuke Eguchi,
Broadcast date: 6 January
Fansub group: Rollins (soft & hard)
The Triangle drama marks the 50th anniversary of the KTV channel. It’s a large scale production with some parts filmed in France. The drama opens up with the unsolved murder of a 10 year old girl in 1984. Fifteen years later, Ryoji (Yosuke) quits his job as a doctor and becomes a detective. While he is in France, he meets a traveling artist, Sachi, played by Ryoko. He later becomes involved in the investigation of the murder mystery.
The story sounds kind of interesting but more importantly the actors! I’m not a huge fan of Yosuke (never saw many of his works) but he wasn’t bad in the Emergency Room drama series and there’s Ryoko! One of my favourite Japanese actresses! haha This drama kind of reminds me of the Da Vinci Code – I think it’s the whole France / mystery thing…The first episode opened up with 14.7% viewership! Not BAD!
Actors: Yukie Nakama and Ryo Kase
Broadcast date: 8 January
Fansub group: Momoflower (soft)
To be honest, the story sounds quite plain…Nakama lives with her parents and grandmother while another stranger, Kase, lives with his father and grandfather. Their ordinary lives changes after they meet…
The reason why I’m planning to give this one a go is because of Yukie and the damn banner!!! It LOOKS SOOOO good!! Very romantic and all. It also reminds me of Calmi Cuori Appassionati. I hope it will not fail us! The first episode is out tonight!!
There’s a whole bunch that might be worth checking out but I just don’t have the time! The notable ones are:
(a) メイちゃんの執事 Mei-chan’s Butler – this is based off a manga and the whole setup looks like a rip from Hana Kimi! Come on Fuji guys! Be creative!! haha This should be a funny one!
(b) 赤い糸 Akai Ito – a romantic drama based on a best selling novel. The ratings so far (they’ve shown 3 episodes) is only around 7-8% but I trust that the Japanese do good dramas. Another thing worth highlighting is that Yugo Kanno is doing the music! He was also responsible for Innocent Love’s OST so I’m expecting some endearing pieces!!
(c) 天地人 Tenchijin – last of all, we’ve got this historical drama. I’m not into these at all as they’re way too long but the cast is definitely attractive! There’s Satoshi Tsumabuki, Takako Tokiwa, Tetsuji Tamayama, Kyoko Fukada, Masami Nagasawa and Shun Oguri! WOW! That’s pretty tempting!! But oops…I just realised…it’s not being SUBBED!! =P
