I’ve been so busy at work in the last few days that I just realised that I’ve finished the last anime (Gokujou Seitokai) and have nothing to watch?!? I actually have plenty of DVDs – some even unopened – but I feel like anime more. Hmm….what should I watch? Do any of you have some good suggestions?
An hour later…
Well, after much searching, I was tossing between Ichigo Mashimaro and Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tababito (Yami, the Hat and the Travelers of the Books). Why I was interested in these? Very simple…because of the voice actresses!
- Strawberry Marshmallow – there’s Hitomi Nabatame (Shizuma from SP and Kanade from Gokujou Seitokai), Ayako Kawasumi (Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko) AND Mamiko Noto (Shimako from Marimite) – now that’s one hell of a cast!! ^_^
- Yami, the Hat and the Travelers of the Books – Mamiko Noto as the main character.

Lolis aside, Strawberry Marshmellow was very enjoyable for me (and I detest lolis – refer here). I guess it all depends on whether you like slice of life genre or not.
Also, the name sounds much better in its Japanese form – Ichigo Mashimaro.

I had to check out your website to work out what lolis is?! (and Wikipedia) Ok, given that you found it enjoyable despite the lolis, then I will check it out – but maybe after Sola! I’m going to browse thru ur blog too…can spot some interesting posts…

If you are into yuri your next watch should really be “Kasimasi girl meets girl”.
I am a yuri fan too and highly recommend it. You just have to watch it from the point of view that Hazuma was always meant to be girl deep inside.

I think shoujo-ai is more appropriate if there’s no sexual content and the relationship is more emotional than physical. Granted, the only show with yuri content that I’ve seen is Mnemosyne, and the one shoujo-ai anime I was watching I dropped because I found it slightly boring (Strawberry Panic).

astrogrrl: Yeah – I’ve heard of that one but I got put off by how the story starts!! haha But I agree – I’m sure it’s one of those ones that I’ll probably end up liking once I get over that initial wall. Definitely on my watch list…just watching Sola now and will put a post up on it. It’s not bad!

dingsan: I know what you mean…don’t know whether you noticed but I was confused for a while which term I should be using. I definitely prefer the shoujo-ai type i.e. emotional connections rather than the physical but I think in western universe, they tend to use yuri as a broader cover for everything. I was going to replace my category’s name from yuri to shoujo-ai…maybe I’ll create two categories. Btw, SP boring? Really? Well I guess it was my first yuri/shoujo-ai anime and I was sneakily watching it before my exams so under those conditions even the news would have been great to me! LOL

Ironically, I was watching Strawberry Panic during exam time as well. I thought I would like shoujo-ai (being a guy), but as it turns out the lack of men got to me.
ANN trivia says that the series has no appearances of male characters. =O

dingsan: LOL…well ANN is not quite accurate. A male “form” does appear once but as a SHADOW!! haha It mentions that one of the characters – Rokujou – will marry her fiance…
